Derry City Council has issued a warning to members of the public to be wary of “cold callers” claiming to be offering top-up grants for household insulation.
Council has been notified by some members of the public claiming they had received telephone calls claiming to be officers from Derry City Council urging them to avail of an insulation grant and encouraging them to withdraw cash to avail of the offer.
Karen Philips, Head of Built Environment and Environmental Health with Derry City Council, said Council did not carry out “cold calls” offering grants for insulation.
She added: “Officers only carry out follow up calls with householders who have had insulation work done that require a Council inspection.”
Householders who receive such calls are advised not to engage in conversation or provide any personal details and to report any such incident to the Council and the PSNI.
Ms Philips said the public should always verify the identification of callers and assured the public all Derry City Council officers had ID and a manager that they could call to check.
