A Derry priest, found not guilty of indecently assaulting a teenage girl in a city parish last year, is to return to his duties his weekend.
Fr Eugene Boland, parish priest of Cappagh, was cleared of all allegations against him following an eight-day trial held last June.
He had faced five charges of indecent assault on a 14-year-old girl in Joseph’s parochial house in the Galliagh area of Derry on unknown dates between June 1990 and June 1992.
Fr Boland, originally from Moville in Inishowen, Co Donegal, had stepped down from his duties after the charges were made in 2010.
Following the verdict, Fr Boland said he looked forward to resuming his ministry in the parish of Cappagh.
At the time, the Derry Diocese said it would be submitting evidence to the Vatican as soon as possible to enable it to decide on Fr Boland’s return.
Fr Boland will be reinstated at the 7.30pm Vigil Mass to be held this Saturday in St Mary’s Church, Killyclogher.
