Funding of £23,945 for the Strabane Community Unemployed Group in Strabane has been announced by Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced.
The group, based at the Unemployed Centre in Newton Street, works within communities to help people who are unemployed, in particular long term unemployed and people suffering from long term health problems, to overcome barriers to learning that prevent them moving into employment.
Through partnership working with the North West Regional College, the organisation delivers a number of formal education courses from the Unemployed Centre.
Daniel O’Hagan, chairperson of Strabane Community Unemployed Group, said the funding will allow the group to continue working to address barriers to learning and provide formal educational courses for local residents who have been unemployed for a period of time.
Announcing the funding, Minister McCausland said provided “valuable opportunities” to people living in local neighbourhoods which enabled them to increase their educational attainment for the transition to further education, training or employment.
He added: “This funding will help to assist people in the local community to avail of further opportunities for learning and development.”
