Local bookworms have been called on to nominate their favourite novel to help create the “Perfect Library” for the North.
To mark National Libraries Day, Libraries NI launched a search for your favourite chick-lits, crime novels and fantasies – from Harry Potter to Moby Dick – to get people talking about books.
Mayor of Derry, Cllr Martin Reilly revealed his own recommendation, and urged everyone from dedicated bookworms to holiday readers, to reveal their favourite read.
“I have submitted my own nomination which is called CultureCraft – Culture in the Making,” he revealed.
He added: “I selected this particular book as it details in both words and photographs the valuable contribution of craft makers throughout our City of Culture in 2013. It serves to highlight the activity of our citizens and encourages others to develop their creative skills.”
Over the past number of weeks the public have been submitting the name of their favourite books to be part of a prize draw, with the winner receiving a copy of every book that makes the final cut.
The “Perfect Library” comes to a close on Saturday 22 March 2014. You can pick up a nomination card in any public/mobile library or nominate on the Libraries NI website www.librariesni.org.uk
Novels that make the final list will be announced on 24 April and copies of the books will be available to borrow from all public libraries for free!
