Derry pet owners are being urged to avail of free microchipping for all dogs during the month of March.
The service is being provided by the Dogs Trust at a number of locations across the city and Sinn Fein election candidate Liam Friel said microchipping would ensure a “speedy reunion” should a pet wander and if stolen and recovered would help to reunite the dog with its rightful owners.
Microchipping is compulsory for all dogs and became a requirement for a dog licence from 9 April, 2012.
As well as free microchipping, the Dogs Trust is also offering subsidised neutering for those on means tested benefits.
