Derry City are scoreless at half-time in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash with Cork City at Brandywell.
In a disappointing first 45 minutes in which few chances were created by either side, Cork will feel the happier having created two clear cut opportunities.
However, the talking point at half time, and indeed before kick-off, is the state of the Brandywell playing surface, especially as this is City’s first home game of the season.
Barry Molloy came to Derry’s rescue in the 28th minute when he headed the ball off the line from a Cork corner.
Although the midfielder appeared to be behind the goal-line, the assistant referee waved play on despite claims by the Cork players the ball had crossed the line.
Shortly afterwards, Rory Patterson forced a good save from McNulty before Pat McEleney wasted a good opportunity to put the home side ahead in the 31st minute when he shot straight at the Cork keeper.
Derry escaped again in the 32nd minute when O’Sullivan failed to convert from the edge of the six yard box when put through by a clever Dennehy free kick.
