Derry’s Paddy McCourt has lost out at top football awards ceremony.
The former Derry City favourite’s wonder goal for Barnsley against Middlesboro towards the end of last year was one of five nominated for the Football League’s Mitre Goal of the Year 2013.
The former Derry City favourite, dubbed the “Derry Pele,” dribbled past six players in a mesmerising run which ended with him placing the ball past the Middllesboro keeper in a 3-2 Barnsley win in the Sky Bet Championship in November.
However, the award went to Coventry City’s Franck Moussa at the gala ceremony at The Brewery in London in front of over 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
The 24-year-old’s spectacular strike in the Sky Blues’ 3-1 win over Leyton Orient saw him run at the opposition defence before dinking an outrageous chip over Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones from just inside the area.
