A Derry fan is on his way to the US after winning a top prize in the first ever GAA National Club Draw.
Pat Clarke, a member of the Henry Joy McCracken club in Moneymore, won the “Ultimate Football Package” – two to the All Ireland Football football final, the All Stars banquet and trip with the All Stars to Boston.
The draw, which took place at Croke on St Patrick’s Day, raised a total of €2.45 million, which is to be divided between the 957 clubs that participated.
GAA President Liam O’Neill said he was delighted with the success of the draw in which 10 prizes were up for grabs.
He said: “This is the first time this initiative has taken place and we hope to see it become bigger and better in years to come. The Finance Committee came up with the idea and delighted to support the initiative that and benefits our clubs directly “
The top prize of a trip to this year’s International Rules Series in Australia was won by Paddy Reilly from the Trinity Gaels club in Dublin.
The prize includes match tickets, airline tickets and accommodation for two.
