Severe disruption is still being experienced in Strabane 10 hours after a lorry overturned at the roundabout at Bradley Way on the main Derry to Omagh road in the town.

It is understood police are waiting on a crane to remove the lorry vehicle from the scene.

Patrick Leonard, SDLP Sperrin candidate in the forthcoming election, said the accident and caused “severe disruption” in the town.

He said: “Following the accident over ten hours ago, we have seen all traffic being diverted through Strabane town centre.

“As a result we have seen lengthy tailbacks on the town bypass and all roads leading into the town.

“This has, in turn, brought Strabane to a standstill and has hampered local traders on what is usually a busy day of the week.”

He concluded: “During lunch-time today I witnessed only a handful of cars parked in one of the main car parks within the town as many local shoppers decided to stay away.”
