Residents in the Waterside area of Derry have been urged to be alert after a spate of thefts from vehicles overnight.
David Malcolm, UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) Foyle Waterside representative as urged residents in the Kilfennan area to be “extremely vigilant” after a number of vehicles in the area were tampered with and ransacked.
Mr Malcolm said “I have been inundated with calls this morning regarding vehicles being tampered with and ransacked overnight.
“At least four cars in Rossmore alone have been entered and ransacked.”
Mr Malcolm said attempts to enter vehicles were also reported in other areas of the district.
He added: “I am also hearing reports that illegal entry to garages and sheds has been attempted in the past week and that a motorcycle was stolen from a property in Curlew Way overnight.”
Mr Malcolm said were police were aware of the incidents.
He added; “I want residents to ensure that their vehicles are locked at all times and that their valuables are secured.”
Mr Malcolm concluded: “Anyone finding themselves victim of these crimes is advised to contact the police on 101.”
