The firm awarded the contract for Road Service maintenance across the North could possibly employ former workers from the now defunct Dungiven-based KPL, according to Derry MLA Pat Ramsey.
Mr Ramsey was speaking after it had been confirmed Coleraine-based firm Whitemountain was continue the work awarded to KPL which went out of business earlier this month with the loss of 200 jobs.
Mr Ramsey said: “I had been contacted by a number of constituents reporting street lights and even traffic lights not working in recent weeks, and had been told by the local DRD that due to the administration of KPL there would be a short delay in dealing with those cases.
“The Regional Development Minister revealed to me his officials have now awarded the existing KPL contract to Whitemountain.
“I want to thank the Minister and his officials for swiftly addressing this issue and, in particular, I am grateful the new contractor has said they will likely use existing KPL staff and subcontractors in the execution of their new contract, which I hope will save local jobs. ”
