The SDLP in Derry have called on Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland to commit to delivering an extra 4,000 social homes to tackle the city’s current housing crisis.
The party says there are almost 3,300 people on the housing list here.
The number waiting to be housed in the Waterloo district is 1,220 which is an increase of 49.3% in the last five years. In 2009, the figure stood at 817.
In the Collon Terrace disrtict here are 1,123, an increase of 54.5 per cent from 2009 when the number stood at 727.
In the Waterside, there are 943 people on the housing waiting list, an increase of 8% in the last five years. In 2009, the figure was 874.
