Police in Derry are probing a suspicious approach by a man to a seven-year-old girl as she made her way to school.
The incident occurred on Woodvale Road in Eglinton at around 8.40m yesterday when the driver of a car, described as a `’black jeep,” stopped beside the girl and spoke to her, and then drove on.
The girl walked on to school and reported the matter to her family last evening.
The man is described as being in his late 40s or early 50s and had brown hair, a dark complexion and a grey beard.
The vehicle he was driving had a white tyre on the back, which may have had numbers on it, and also contained what appears to be a dog grille on the back window.
A PSNI spokesperson said policed wanted to speak to the man to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The spokesperson asked anyone with information to the police non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference number 884 24/03/14.
