Fold Housing in partnership with Derry City Council and the developers are tackle an ongoing rat problem on a new housing estate in the city.
The multi-agency response to the problem at the Glenabbey estate in the Shantallow area has been welcomed by Sinn Fein local election candidate Sandra Duffy.
She said: “While I understand that rodents can be a problem in any building development, but with the majority of these properties now occupied and the health implications of this I am glad to state that after negotiations from Sinn Féin, Fold Housing, Derry City Council and the developers have agreed to jointly address this problem.
“It may not be possible to completely resolve as building work is still continuing but they hope to be at least able to contain the present problem.”
She concluded: “Pest control is generally the responsibility of the tenant but as this is a widespread issue throughout the estate the three agencies have agreed to work together to address it.”
