POLICE URGE SHOP OWNERS TO REVIEW SECURITY AFTER LARGE AMOUNT OF CIGARETTES STOLEN

cigarettesPolice are advising shop owners to review their security following the theft of a large number of cigarettes from a Co. Derry shop.

The theft took place at a shop at William Street in Bellaghy at about 3.30am on Friday last, 21 March.

A PSNI spokesperson said police keen to hear from anyone who saw unknown people or vehicles in the area.

They are also asking shop proprietors to review their security and to minimise the quantities of cigarettes they keep overnight in publicly accessible parts of their premises.

The spokesperson added: “Larger stocks of cigarettes should be kept behind locked doors in a secure storeroom.”

The spokeperson said any Information could be given by contacting the non-emergency number, 101, and asking for the CID at Magherafelt, quoting reference number 92 21/03/14.

Alternatively, callers who do not wish to disclose their details could call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
