Environment Minister Mark H Durkan and UTV’s Pamela Ballantine, with Derry City Football Club manager Roddy Collins and players Cliff Byrne, Aaron Barry and Jon Paul McGovern at the launch of the ecar roadshow being held today in Derry’s Guildhall today.
Roadshow events, a joint initiative between the Department of the Environment and the Department for Regional Development, are being held across Northern Ireland to give private and business drivers an opportunity to see and test drive the latest electric vehicles on offer.
Derry City Football Club took part in the pilot scheme to promote the use of electric cars to club members and fans.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Durkan said: “Electric vehicles are a genuine alternative to fossil fuel powered vehicles and can support the transition towards a low carbon society while helping us to meet our climate change, air quality and noise objectives.
“I hope Clifford Byrne from Derry City Football Club enjoyed his test drive in the electric car and telling club members and fans of the benefits of electric cars. I am sure he, like the ecar project, is charged for success this season!”
