The Northern Ireland Housing Executive is advising tenants with gas installations their supply will be cut off if engineers are unable to gain access to carry out safety checks.
A HE spokesperson said they had a legal duty to service its gas heating annually.
The spokesperson added: “Due to the serious implications of not fulfilling this duty, we have been obliged to introduce a policy whereby the gas supply will be disconnected if access to your home is not possible
“Failure to ensure access will result in the NIHE disconnecting your gas supply.”
The spokesperson added: “We only use Gas Safe registered contractors for repair or installation of gas appliances. It is important that you allow our contractors access to carry out this important work.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said if a tenant suspected an appliance was unsafe then should turn it off and do not touch it until it has been checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer and contact HE on 03448 920 901.
