A gang of “travelling criminals” were behind three “high value” shop thefts in Derry in the past week, police in the city believe.
On Saturday, a gang of three men stole several hundred pounds worth of football tops from a sports shop in the Crescent Link retail park in the Waterside.
The same men then went into the city centre to a store on Ferryquay Street and cleared out a display of about 30 designer shirts worth about £750.
They then entered a store at Carlisle Road on Tuesday and stole six pairs of jeans total valued at £600.
In each case, the gang used a box inside a large blue Argos bag.
A similar incident took place in Magherafelt on 15 March last.
A police spokesperson said the men were thought to be “travelling criminals” and as least two of them spoke with Scottish accenta.
The spokesperson asked anyone with information that could help identify the men contact the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team at Strand Road using the 101 non-emergency number and asking for extension 57172.
Alternatively, callers who did not wish to disclose their details could call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
