Derry, for many years, has been recognised as an unemployment blackspot.
It is something the people of the city have criticised for decades.
A video, featuring a number of the city’s long-term unemployed, has been posted online.
It features Woodrow Wyatt, from the BBC programme Panorama, interviewing a number a number of out-of-work men who hold little hope of getting a job.
The fact it was recorded in 1955 shows how Derry has suffered throughout the decades from the lack of employment opportunities.
One of those interviewed is working, however.
But Michael Boyle (21), the father of current Derry City SDLP Councillor John Boyle, revealed his job as a bus conductor was only temporary and he had been out of work for six years after leaving school at the age of 16.
