Those responsible for stoning buses in the Waterside area of Derry have been condemned by local election candidate Christopher Jackson.
Christopher Jackson, Sinn Fein representative who is seeking election in May’s local government election, said there had been a number of attacks on the Translink bus service in the Bard’s Hill area over the last few nights.
Adding such incidents were “very frightening” for drivers and passengers, Mr Jackson said those involved needed not only to consider the consequences of the physical damage they could cause and their repercussions but also the disruption to their own community that attacking a bus caused.
He aded: “Top of the Hill has many residents who depend on affordable public transport to get to and from the city centre and any removal of this service would cause untold hardship.”
Mr Jackson concluded: “I would call on the local community to support Translink in helping to deliver a safe affordable service to the Top of the Hill by using any influence with the young people involved to desist immediately.”
