The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) has been called on to bring forward external improvement works planned for homes in the Creggan area of Derry.
An announcement by NIHE that it is to carry out external improvements in Rinmore Drive has been welcomed by Sinn Fein Cllr Kevin Campbell.
However, Cllr Campbell has called for the improvements, planned for next year, to be brought forward.
Cllr Campbell was speaking after he was informed the Executive was to carry out the works under its External Cycle Maintenance (ECM) scheme.
He said: “I have been engaging with the Housing Executive over the last number of months on behalf of the residents of Rinmore Drive who have raised numerous complaints in regards to their homes.
“I am now delighted to say that the Executive have informed me that a scheme in now organised for the area next year.
“I am going to impress upon the Housing Executive to bring this scheme forward. This will entail consultants visiting the area to ascertain what external improvements are needed for the area.
“I have already impressed on the HE that window replacement is vital as part of the scheme.
“I have visited a number of homes in the area and have seen at first hand the state of the windows.
“It is also important that other repair issues are dealt with such as damp in the homes.
Cllr Campbell concludedL “I will now be writing to HE to have this particular scheme brought forward and started as soon as possible.”
