Paul McVeigh came to Finn Harps rescue against 10-man Galway at Finn Park tonight to maintain the Ballybofey club’s unbeaten start to the season in the Airtricity Division One.
McVeigh levelled for the home side just four minutes after coming on as a second half substitute after Vinny Fahery had fired the visitors ahead with an excellent goal in the 36th minute – the first goal to be conceded in the league this season by Ollie Horgan’s side.
Galway played most of the game with ten men after Derek O’Brien was shown a straight red card in the 26th minute.
The result sees Harps move a point clear of Shelbourne at the top of the league.
However, Shels could leapfrog the Donegal club if they succeed in defeating Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 3.00pm).
Longford remain in third place, two points behind Harps, with a game in hand as a result of their clash with Cobh Ramblers at Colman’s Park tonight being postponed.
