Police have renewed their appeal to shopkeepers to review their security following another theft of a large amount of cigarettes in Co Derry.
In the latest incident, cigarettes were stolen from a shop at St Patrick’s Street in Draperstown.
The premises were broken into shortly before 3.00am on Friday last – the second theft of cigarettes in the area within a week.
In last Friday’s theft, intruders stole cigarettes from a cigarettes display and made off with them in a recycling box.
The previous Friday, thieves got away with a large quantity of cigarettes following a break-in at a shop at William Street in Bellaghy.
Police have renewed their appeal to shopkeepers to minimise the number of cigarettes they leave in store displays overnight.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Instead, cigarettes should be kept in a secure storeroom.”
The spokesperson asked anyone with information to contact police on the non-emergency number, 101.
Alternatively, callers who do not wish to disclose their details can call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
