Emergency services at the scene of the accident on Creggan Hill.
Police have confirmed a man has been arrested following this afternoon’s accident which has closed one of the busiest roads in Derry.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash which occurred on Creggan Hill close to Helen Street.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver of one of two cars which have been pushed up against houses on the street.
The driver has been taken to hospital. Their condition is not known.
The collision occurred shortly before 4.00pm and involved a red BMW and a silver Ford Puma.
Local people at the scene claim the driver of the BMW fled the scene.
Creggan Hill has been closed by police with traffic being diverted away from the area.
