Derry has once again been awarded first place in the city category of the Translink Ulster Bloom Awards.
The awards ceremony took place in Carrickfergus and attracted more than 145 entries representing local councils, businesses, community groups.
Mayor of Derry Cllr Martin Reilly congratulated those involved.
He said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to the Derry City Council grounds maintenance and cleansing teams in securing this prestigious award for the city.
“This would not have been possible without their hard work and commitment.
“This is a great achievement for the city and an important accolade for the city as our year as Music City 2014.
“Derry now has some beautiful plant and floral displays that welcomes visitors, and provides a stunning visual for all events in the next coming year.”
He concluded: “I hope that this brings a sense of pride to the city, all those involved should feel a real sense of achievement as this marks the start of another exciting year for the city and region.”
Danny McCartney, head of grounds maintenance at Derry City Council, said: “The grounds maintenance and cleansing staff of Derry City Council worked hard to ensure that the city looked its best ahead of the competition.
“We are delighted that we received such recognition. The people of Derry can now enjoy the various displays across the city when out and about.”
He concluded: “This award was much deserved and I extend my congratulations to all those who made winning possible. ”
