A tribute night to young Derry man, Andrew Quigley, whose body was recovered from the River Foyle just over four weeks after he went missing on 18 January last, has raised £4,100 for Foyle Search and Rescue.
uiNumerous prizes, donated by local businesses, were up for offer at the funderaiser held in the Tower Hotel.
The night was organised by the 19-year-old’s family as a “thank you” to members of the lifesaving charity who carried out daily searches of the river.
Meanwhile, Foyle Search and Rescued has been presented with a euro coin-counting machine by a Strabane business man.
Brian Haughey, from Costcutter, handed over the machine to Daryl Hannigan, treasurer of the Foyle Search and Rescue fundraising committee and Anthony McMenamin, the charity’s caretaker.
Thanking Brian for the donation, Daryl said the machine would be a “massive help” to Foyle Search and Rescue volunteers when counting money brought in from charity boxes and street collections.
The countdown is on for the charity’s next fundraiser – a sponsored two bridge walk – taking place on Sunday, 11 May next.
The walk will leave St Columb’s Park House in the Waterside at 1.00pm and take in the Foyle and Peace Bridges.
Sponsor forms are available from the Foyle Search and Rescue headquarters at Prehen or by telephoning the fundraising line on 07927076284
