Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) has launched their latest digital learning solutions for social care workers in Derry.
The Learn from Learning website and the three mobile Apps (IOS and Android) to support learning in Child Development 7-12 Years, Domiciliary Care and Childminding Health and Safety” are aimed getting care workers engaged and excited by the opportunities that new technologies can offer in them in their professional practice.
It has been estimated that using mobile technology for learning and development could save employers’ 2% in their training budgets, which would translate across the British social work, social care and children’s services sector as a saving of £72m.
Colum Conway, NISCC Chief Executive said this saving was in addition to the working time saved because staff would have knowledge and learning literally at their fingertips.
He added: “These learning solutions are a practical example of how the Northern Ireland Social Care Council is helping the sector to develop the workforce skills needed to embrace new technology and reshape how we deliver care services.”
Technology partner in the development of the mobile Apps is Derry company, Learning Pool.
Its chief executive,Paul McElvaney: he was delighted to support such a “worthwhile project” with an “agenda that matters.”
He added: “We’ve helped to create these Apps to allow care professionals, parents and volunteers to access training without leaving the office or home.
“The Apps will help staff with their professional development, providing easy access to the latest training.”
The launch was attended Derry Mayor Cllr Reilly, a keen advocate for education and also for ensuring high standards in social care services.
Whilst at Queens University, he was Students’ Union Vice President for Education and is currently a non-executive member of the Patient Client Council.
