A number of community groups in Derry are to share £148,000 funding under Derry City Council’s Good Relations Core and Project Grants scheme.
Thirty-three successful groups will receive the funding which was publicly advertised in December last as part of the delivery of the Council’s “Good Relations Strategy” which aims to support the building of a United Community, promote diversity and tackle racism and sectarianism.
Grants of up to £5,000 each were open to constituted community and voluntary sector groups delivering relevant projects this financial year to benefit local people.
Groups include a range from both the cityside and Waterside as well as rural initiatives across areas such sports and arts, youth and education groups, as well as specific Good Relations groups representing local ethnic minority groups and disability groups.
Fifty-seven groups had applied for funding.
Sue Divin, Community Relations Officer with Derry City Council, announced support was available to those who were not successful to be able to apply for other funding.
She added: “Next Wednesday, 9 April, we will hold a feedback session with one-to-one advice, and on Friday, 11 April, at 10.00am in the Holywell Diverse city offices, we have a funding information seminar open to anyone interested in applying to the Community Relations Council in Belfast for diversionary youth intervention schemes or other diversity and good relations projects.”
