Police in Derry are advising homeowners to secure their homes at all times following a spate of burglaries in Creggan area of the city.
A number of the burglaries over the past week occurred at homes where doors were left unlocked at night or while the houses were unoccupied.
In some cases, keys were left in the doors.
A PSNI spokesperson said such “walk-in” burglaries could be prevented by ensuring doors and windows were closed and locked.
The spokesperson said anyone with information on any of the burglaries should contact the 101 non-emergency number and ask for the City West Neighbourhood Policing Team at Strand Road.
Sinn Fein have called on anyone who sees suspicious activity to contact the PSNI or a local community representative.
Liam Friel, SF local election candidate, said: “People should not be worried to take that extra few minutes to carry out simple precautions to make it as difficult as possible for the thieves and deter them from targeting their home.”
