Police in Derry are advising members of the public to take steps to prevent criminals making a profit from the theft of gardening equipment.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “As Easter approaches, the thoughts of many people turn to their gardens and home improvements, and the thoughts of criminals turn to the rich pickings they can gain from unsecured tools and equipment.
“Tools and garden equipment are valuable and often easily stolen and sold on by criminals.
“Police are advising householders o keep lawnmowers, power tools and other valuable equipment securely locked away when not in use.”
The spokesperson said it was also important to keep an eye on them when they were being used.
“Tools should not be left unattended in a public place, for example left in the font garden while the householder is at the back,” the spokesperson added.
“Locking equipment away is the first rule of crime prevention.”
