Shoppers are being urged to support the monthly Walled City Market which takes place on the first Saturday of every month in Derry’s Guildhall Square – the next, this Saturday, between 10.00am and 5.00pm.
Encouraging the public to support traders participating in the Market, the Mayor of Derry Cllr Martin Reilly said it was the “perfect location” to do some shopping of locally produced and specialist products in a “relaxed and friendly atmosphere.”
He added: “The city’s Walled City Market, which is organised by Derry City Council, hosts a wide range of foods straight from the farm, including meats, fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as craft items, genuine artisan designs and all by local farmers and craft producers at great value prices.
“It’s a great opportunity to support local businesses and sample some local produce.”
Mayor Reilly said that an important element of the market was the fact that it now featured a number of traders from Derry City Council’s Business Opportunities Market Start Up programme.
He said it was important in the current economic climate that shoppers did all they could to support local traders and help boost the local economy.
