A man arrested on suspicion of the murder of Derry man William O’Hara in England has been bailed pending further police enquiries.
Mr O’Hara (60), originally from Castlerock, died in Barnsley District General Hospital on Monday after suffering life-threatening injuries in an incident at around 5.00pm on Saturday last at Thurnscoe Coronation Working Men’s Club in Stuart Street, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the club following reports of a disturbance.
A police spokesperson said Mr O’Hara was socialising at the venue when he became embroiled in an “altercation” with man.
The spokesperson added a preliminary post mortem report showed Mr O’Hara died from a head injury.
“Early indications from the post mortem examination suggest that Mr O’Hara died as a result of a head injury. However, further tests are being carried out,” the spokesperson said.
