Strabane Community Parntership has officially opened its food bank in the town.
Since opening its doors in August, the facility – the first in the North West – has helped over 700 local families and by March next year, it expects to have helped over 2,000.
The food bank has been given the backing of Patrick Leonard, Sperrin SDLP local election candidate, who said it was helping to support those in need and providing assistance to those struggling within the local community.
Speaking after visiting the food bank, Mr Leonard said: “All food given out by the Strabane food bank is kindly donated and the generosity and support of the people of this district has been phenomenal.
“Members of the public can place any non perishable items of food or toiletries in the permanent trolleys available in Asda Strabane and in Tesco, Lisnagelvin or drop them into the Strabane food bank on Church Street.”
