Police patrols have been stepped up around a parochial house in Derry after the resident priest revcaled had been “terrified” by young people engaged in anti-social behaviour.
Fr Dermott Harkin said the situation had become so unbearable he would have no choice to move out of his residence at St Mary’s Church if it continued, stressing it would be a “last resort.”
The parochial house is situated next to a laneway where, according to Fr Harkin, groups of up to 20 youths had persistently kept him awake at night by “screaming and shouting.”
Fr Harkin revealed the anti-social behaviour would begin at around 11.00am and continue, at times, until 6.30am.
Fr Harkin said the situation had improved over the weekend following the increase of police patrols in the area.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson confirmed officers had received reports of anti-social behaviour in the area and had increased patrols.
