Restaurant chain Nando’s is to operate a strict “over-25s” policy regarding the sale of alcohol when it opens its first outlet in Derry this week.
Thirty-three jobs will be created when the 114-seater restaurant opens its doors on Wednesday at the Shipquay Street entrance to the Richmond Centre.
The chain, which specialises in chicken dishes with a Portugese inspiration, has spent £850,000 converting the premises.
The restaurant – the third to be opened by Nando’s in the North – will be allowed to sell alcohol with the company revealing it would be to over-25s only.
The commitment was given during an licensing application at Derry Court by Nando’s operating director, Robert Collins, who said if anyone was believed to be under-25 they would be asked to show identification.
The opening of the new restaurant has been welcomed by Derry MLA who described it as “great news.”
Mr Ramsey added: “It is great news Nando’s are now looking for dedicated and passionate people to join their new team.”
