The scene at Moat Street following this morning’s arson attack.

Police in Derry are investigating a number of car break-ins after a number of vehicles were damaged in Maureen Avenue area of the city.

Police say they are investigating a report of criminal damage being caused to several vehicles at a car park in the area.

A PSNI spokesperson said at approximately 9.25am this morning, it was reported  a car had been broken into and a small amount of change taken sometime during the night.

Three other cars were also tampered with but it is not believed anything was taken from them.

The break-ins took place close to Moat Street where a number of cars were damaged in an arson attack at around 4.45am this morning.

It is not known if the incidents are linked.

A PSNI spokesperson asked anyone who had any information to contact Strand Road Police Station on the new non-emergency telephone number 101.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they could contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
