The much criticised temporary one way system on Strabane’s Bridge Street is to end on Friday next – for a month!
Motorists and business owners in the town have expressed anger at the severe traffic congestion in the town as a result of the one way system introduced to facilitate ongoing roadworks.
The public realm scheme works were due to last 12 weeks.
However, according to Sinn Fein MLA Michaela Boyle, Roads Service district manager Declan McBridge, had confirmed the one way temporary traffic management system will remain in place until midday on Friday next, 18 April, when the normal two way traffic flow will be reintroduced.
The normal two way traffic flow will remain in place up to and including Sunday, 11 May, when the one way temporary traffic management system will be reintroduced on Monday, 12 May.
Ms Boyle said: “There will be no resurfacing road works taking place from midday on 18 April until Sunday, 27 April. Site works will recommence on Monday, 28 April.”
Ms Boyle said the changes had been made possible by selecting stretches of footway and breaking these stretches into smaller zones.
She added: “One of these zones can be resurfaced with two way traffic flow in operation.”
“These changes may affect the delivery timescale for these works.”
Ms Boyle concluded: “The management of the works is continually under review, to ensure that the works are carried out without risk to the health and safety of any person.”
