BOSTON HIT-AND-RUN VICTIM TO BE LAID TO REST THIS AFTERNOON

The Derry man killed in a hit-and-run incident in the US last week will be laid to rest this afternoon.

Eoin McGrory (34), originally from the Shantallow area, was killed when he was hit by a garbage truck in the Charlestown area of Boston on Thursday week last.

He will be laid to rest in the cemetery at St Mary’s Church, Cockhill, Buncrana following 12.15pm Requiem Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Steelstown.

Members of his family travelled to Boston to accompany his body home.

The youngest of a family of six – three boys and three girls – he had been living in the US for the past 16 years, working in the construction industry and had been married to his wife, Shannique, for less than four months.

He is was a former pupil of Steelstown Primary School and Carnhill High School.

Eoin is survived by his wife Shannique, step daughter Monique, brothers John and Philip, and sisters Karen, Roma and Julie.

A keen cyclist, who won a number of competitions in the US, he was on a training run when the incident occurred in the Charlestown area of Boston on Thursday week last.

The 41-year-old driver of the lorry has been charged in connection with the incident.

Ricky Prezisoso, a father of three, denies leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

He is currently on $5,000 bail and is due to appear in court again 19 May next.
