Finn Harps made a small trading profit last year – thanks to former Finn Park forward Stephen McLaughlin’s transfer from Derry City to Nottingham Forest.
Shareholders at the Ballybofey club’s annual general meeting were told the cost of running the club came to just under €250,000 – which meant a trading profit of €1,114.
However, it would have made a loss had it not been for the fact Harps received €24,000 as their cut of the transfer received by Derry City when McLaughlin was sold on to Nottingham Forest for a fee believed to be in the region of £160,000.
McLaughlin joined Harps from Inishowen side Clonmany Shamrocks in 2009. Aged 19, he was signed for the club’s youth team but soon found himself as a vital member of the first team squad.
He signed for Derry City after the 2010 season and after winning promotion from the League of Ireland First Division in his first season and the FAI Cup in his second, netting 17 goals along the way, he signed for English Championship side Nottingham Forest on 3 January last year.
