Anyone who, for whatever reason, will not be able to make it in person to the polling station to vote in the local and European elections on Thursday, 22 May next, is being urged to apply for either a proxy or postal vote before the cut off date of 1 May.
Sinn Féin’s Director of Elections for Strabane, Cllr Jay McCauley, is also urging anyone who will be 18 or over on 22 May to ensure they secure their entitlement to vote.
Cllr McCauley said: “If you are housebound due to illness; a student away at University: working away from home; or away on holiday on 5 May you are entitled to apply for what is termed as an absent postal or proxy vote. The deadline to apply for an absent vote is 1st May.
“The deadline to register to vote is 6 May and the final deadline to apply for photographic electoral ID card is 9 May.
“Electoral registration forms and/or postal/proxy registration forms can be downloaded from the Electoral Office website: www.electoralofficeni.gov.uk.
“Alternatively, these same forms can be secured from the local Sinn Féin office in Strabane, telephone 71886464 or from any Sinn Fein member.
“Completed applications must be submitted/sent to the Area Electoral Office, 21, Kevlin Avenue, Omagh, BT78 1ER, telephone 0800 4320 712.”
Cllr McCauley concluded: “I would urge everyone, who will be 18 or over on the 22 May, to ensure that they now secure their entitlement to vote.”
