With only three players in their team, the winners of Saturday’s Yellow Ball competition at City of Derry proved that quality is better than quantity.
Felix Healy, disputising as skipper, did a fantastic job guiding Sean Coyle and a jet-lagged Robbie Kennelly, who has spent the last three months playing golf down in Australia, to an impressive front nine of 43 points in challenging conditions.
Their back nine got off to a slow start scoring only 2 points at the 10th, however they put that temporary set back behind them and scored an incredible 14 points over the 13th and 14th holes which ultimately was the deciding factor in claiming victory.
Special mention must go to Sean Coyle who counted in 14 of the 18 holes, including every hole on the back nine.
The team of John Hancock, Fred Young, Graham Hepburn and John Flynn scored an outward nine of 40 points and really turned it on in the back nine scoring 44 points.
However, scoring only three points at the short but tricky 16th hole cost them dearly as they came up one point shy of the eventual winners.
