Those involved in a “Big Spring Clean Up” in the Strabane area have been praised by local councillor Karina Carlin.
The environmental initiative by Strabane District Council and local communities sees groups of local people in the town’s estates and villages – male and female, young and old – volunteering to take up the challenge of tackling illegal dumping and littering to improve the attractiveness of their areas
Those involved by been commended by Cllr Carlin.
The Sinn Fein representative said:”Week after week, I have been impressed by the hard work and efforts of local people who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to the Big Spring Clean throughout the District.
“We have encountered some shocking examples of illegal dumping in some of the most beautiful and picturesque locations, which was disheartening.
“Yet the positive spirit and attitude of the clean- up volunteers has ensured this initiative is not only good for the environment, but also great craic.
Cllr Carlin concluded: “For any groups who wish to organise their own community clean up, Council can provide litter-pickers, protective gloves, bin bags and high visibility bibs, and will arrange to collect and remove the bags of rubbish and dumped items.”
