Young people have the same right to protection in buying products and services as everyone else in society, Derry Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly has said.
Cllr Kelly said he was “disappointed” the new legislation on Goods, Facilities and Services would exclude people under the age of 18.
He said: “This new legislation fails to cover the rights of the young and needs to be challenged.
“For example if a child needs a prosthetic hand they may only have access to an adult one but have no right to appeal this decision and this is not acceptable.
“We need to move away from age discrimination whether it against old people or young people if we are to create a society of equals.”
Cllr Kelly concluded: “Equality needs to be inclusive of all ages, creeds, colours and sexual orientation and Sinn Féin will continue to promote the equality agenda until everyone in our society have equal rights under the law.”
