Donegal club Letterkenny Rovers have pulled off a sensational coup by signing former Derry City captain, Kevin Deery.
Rovers manager Trevor Scanlon confirmed Deery, along with another ex-City player Owen Morrison, signed for the Leckview outfit last night.
Deery was the captain of Derry City last season and had a decorated career with his hometown club, memorably scoring two wonder goals against Gretna during the club’s fantastic run in the UEFA Cup.
However, following a lengthy period on the sidelines through injury he was deemed surplus to requirements by Derry City manager Roddy Collins and released the Dubliner.
Morrison, regarded as a supremely gifted winger, has had spells at Derry City, Sligo Rovers and Dunfermline.
Trevor Scanlon said he was delighted with the signings.
“Both lads signed last night and were absolutely delighted,” he said.
He added: “They’re two absolutely quality players, who’ve enjoyed fantastic careers at a senior level and they’ll give us a great lift.”
