Executives from HBO – the US-based production company behind the hugely successful “Game of Thrones” – are due in Derry this weekend when details of films and television series to be made in the city will be unveiled.
The details are expected to be revealed at a press conference and “launch party” arranged for the city this Saturday to announce the setting up of two new international film and television companies.
It is understood recruitment for the two companies has already begun.
International stars will be among the guests at the event arranged by US media and entertainment law firm SmithDehn LLP.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “One of the first film projects arising from this development will be a positive, uplifting, scripted drama about Northern Ireland, coming from ideas to be developed by a local, cross-community story collective.
“At the moment, there is a slate of three films and three TV series to be shot in Derry, Belfast, and elsewhere in Northern Ireland.”
SmithDehn LLPwhich will also announce an expansion of its course on business and law of film and television at the Magee campus of the University of Ulster.
The spokesperson added: “With help from our clients at HBO and Channel 4, who have been helping us teach this course, we are training new producers and media law professionals, for the film and television industry in Northern Ireland and around the world.”
