A Derry residential care home that was earmarked for closure has been given a reprieve.
Thackery in Limavady is one of four homes in Northern Ireland that have been told they will not be closed – the others are Westlands in Cookstown, Pinewood in Ballymena and Rosedale in Antrim.
Health Minister Edwin Poots visited a number of homes today to tell residents they would not be moved while they wanted to stay there.
In a statement, his department said: “The minister will receive the full analysis from the Health and Social Care Board shortly on the recent consultation process, but took the opportunity today to reaffirm to residents that their wishes and welfare are his main priority.
“Existing residents will be allowed to remain in their home for as long as they wish and so long as their needs can continue to be met there.”
