Sinn Féin education spokesperson in Derry Patricia Logue has called on anyone with information about the theft of computer equipment from local school to contact police.
Fifteen Apple iPads were stolen from Model School Primary School on the Northland Road on Friday last.
It is believed the thief walked into a empty classroom and took tablets worth in the region of £4,500.
Councillor Logue said the theft was an attack on the entire community and was “completely unacceptable.”
She said: “Schools are centres of our communities and provide not just education for our children but also services for families, after schools projects, and outreach to the wider community.”
“I would appeal for anyone with even the slightest information on this theft or has been offered them for sale to bring it forward to the police straight away. ”
Cllr Logue concluded: “It’s important that the iPads are returned so that it doesn’t interfere will the children’s school work.”
Principal Paul Sheridan said the theft had been reported to police and appealed for the computers to be returned.
Mr Sheridan said Apple had been contacted and had rendered the computers “useless.”
He added: “We just want our computers back. They cost £4,500 and that is money we simply don’t have.”
