The announcement of £204,960 funding by Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland for the Whistle Project in the Waterside area of Derry has been welcomed by Christopher Jackson, Sinn Fein local election candidate.
The funding will assist the building of a single storey extension, refurbishment of the existing premises and completion a state of the art computer suite the project’s current premises at Campion Court.
Mr Jackson paid tribute to community workers in the area for their role in obtaining the funding.
He said: “The Whistle Project is a fantastic youth facility that runs on a small staff but draws in hundreds of young people from the local area.
“The majority of the group’s revenue is self-generated, which this makes the news about the funding even more deserving.
“The community workers in the area are to be commended for their hard work in ensuring the funding came to Top of the Hill.”
The refurbishment project will be delivered and managed by the Whistle Project and will commence later this month with completion due at the end of March next year.
