The announcement by digital communications company EE (Everything Everywhere) that it is to create over 300 jobs in Derry has been welcomed in the city.

The company is to bring 333 call centre jobs to the former Stream building at The Branch with the support of a £1.5 million investment by Invest NI.

The jobs are predicted create an estimated £5 million in the local economy every year.

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan EE’s decision to locate to Derry was a “vote of confidence” in the city and a recognition of the calibre of the local workforce.

He added: “I have been in touch with the EE team to commend them on their commitment and look forward to welcoming them on the commencement of operations.”

Derry Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin, a member of the Assembly Enterprise Committee, said the creation of the new jobs was “good news” for Derry and a “particularly welcome announcement” for the local economy.

She added: “It is refreshing to hear good news on the jobs front for the North West and I look forward to the outworking of the benefits to the local economy from these jobs which will be in place within the next 12 months.”
