Up to 100,000 people are expected visit the Maritime Festival to be staged in Derry to welcome the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race to the city.
And a programme of events arranged by Derry City Council is predicted to create £5 million for the local economy.
One of the highlights of the eight-day festival, which will begin on 21 June, will be an outdoor concert by the legendary US group The Beach Boys.
The Foyle Quay will transformed into a “summer promenade,” complete with race village, marine marquees, award winning continental market and host of sea faring activities on and off shore.
‘Sharon O’Connor, chief executive of Derry City Council, said the festival of events was going to generate millions.
She said: “I’d like to think that it is going to generate £5m for the local economy. It’s a realistic figure.
“We have called this year’s festival Legenderry and it really is going to be fantastic.”
Central to the Clipper race’s arrival will be the city’s entry, the Derry “LondonDerry” Doire.
